Who is required to take Texas Adult Driver Education? Ages 18–24: A TDLR-approved 6-hour Adult Driver Education course is required to obtain your first Texas driver’s license. Ages 25+: Recommended, but not required. Complete the course and take your official Texas written knowledge exam online all in one place.

What topics are covered in the Adult Driver Education course? The course covers Texas traffic laws, road signs, safe driving habits, and distracted driving. The Texas knowledge exam is included.

Do I have to take the written knowledge test at the DPS? No. After you pass the course exam, you receive a Certificate of Completion and do not need to take the written test at DPS.

What should I do after completing the course? After finishing the course, schedule your DPS appointment, complete any required Impact Texas Drivers course, and take your driving test.

Do adults need behind-the-wheel practice hours in Texas? No. Texas does not require adults to complete a set number of behind-the-wheel practice hours, but it is still a good idea to practice driving before taking the road test.
